With his trademark warmth and honesty, Dr Alex George and Alex Partridge (host of ADHD Chatter Podcast) will be live in conversation as they explore what ‘normal’ really means when it comes to work, wellbeing, and identity. As a former A&E doctor, Sunday Times No. 1 bestselling author, former Youth Mental Health Ambassador for the UK and host of Stompcast, Dr Alex draws on his personal experiences with loneliness, grief and sobriety to ask Am I Normal?
On the surface, Dr Alex George had it all: millions of online followers born out of his job as a doctor, a dedicated and outspoken advocate for the mental health of children and adults, latterly serving as the UK’s official Youth Mental Health Ambassador, and the founder of a hugely successful podcast where his guests walk and talk about their lives and share their expertise. So why, despite all of this, did he feel as if he was stuck, ‘other’ and anything but ‘normal’? He found himself asking how he could move through the world successfully if the struggle to be normal was the very thing causing him distress…and what is ‘normal’ anyway?
And so, the quest began, to understand his place in society Dr Alex first had to explore what it is we call normal; a life-changing session with a psychiatrist to help explore his ADHD diagnosis set Alex on a path to understand himself rather than just bend to fit in.
'This is the story of all of the ways in which I didn't fit in and of all the things I would rather change about the world, than myself.'
This is an event that will give hope to anyone who has ever felt different and help you realise that your version of your normal is enough.
There will be an opportunity for the audience to ask Dr Alex a question as well as have the chance to purchase the book and have Dr Alex sign your copy after the show.
