Avalon presents a staggering line-up of comics, previewing new stand-up shows ahead of the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Be the first to see this hilarious material due to set the Fringe alight. Dr Matt Winning is a London-based Scottish comedian and environmental economist who performs live climate change comedy. Matt has a PhD in climate change policy and is still an active researcher, combining his two worlds of comedy and environmental issues in an attempt to help save the planet. In 2021 he published his book Hot Mess which encompasses these two worlds. Adam Kay described it as “a very funny, important and only moderately terrifying clarion call of a book”. He performed his latest stand-up show of the same name across the UK and was awarded Pick of the Fringe at Bedford Fringe Festival. On TV Matt appeared as the environmental correspondent on Dave’s Unspun with Matt Forde and has also featured in BBC Scotland shows The State of It and Scot Squad. On radio, he has most recently presented BBC Radio 4’s Net Zero: A Very British Problem which is a 4 part series. Previously he was a guest on BBC Radio 4’s The Now Show and BBC Radio Scotland’s Breaking The News. Matt hosted the podcast Operation Earth and has a TEDx talk about the importance of using humour to discuss climate change. Early in his comedy career Matt quickly gained a reputation as an exciting new act after winning the Hilarity Bites New Act of the Year in 2011 and appearing in the final of the BBC Radio 2 New Comedy Awards in 2012. Rob Auton released his book I Strongly Believe in Incredible Things with Harper Collins in Autumn of 2021 to critical acclaim. He has written seven five star rated Edinburgh fringe shows, The Yellow Show, The Sky Show, The Face Show, The Water Show, The Sleep Show, The Hair Show, The Talk Show (the second best reviewed show at the Edinburgh Festival 2018) and The Time Show, which was one of the best reviewed shows at the Edinburgh Festival 2019. He then took The Time Show on a UK tour, which continues this autumn. He has performed his unique brand of comedy on The Russell Howard Hour (Sky One) and on Rob Delaney’s Stand Up Central (Comedy Central). The latter set went viral on Facebook with 4.7m views and counting. Rob has had three collections of writing and illustrations published by Burning Eye books and has had his poetry turned into short films and shown on Channel 4. Rob made his television acting debut as a corduroy jacket wearing poet in ITV’s Cold Feet 2018. Since then, he performed in series 2 of The End of The F***ing World (Netflix/Channel 4), and Miracle Workers (TBS). Rob also starred in and co-wrote the short film The Peamaster which was nominated for best short film at the Milan Film Festival. Rob was a finalist for The Arts Foundation Spoken Word Award and a winner of a Three Weeks Editors Award. He is a regular poet at Bang Said the Gun (voted best poetry night in the UK by The Times). Rob is also the creator of The Rob Auton Daily Podcast which took home The Best Daily Podcast Award at the 2020 British Podcast Awards.
