After their sensational tour of the UK 2 years ago, we’re delighted to welcome back by popular demand the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine.
The concert will begin with 2 evocative short pieces by Frederick Delius – On Hearing the First Cuckoo of Spring & Summer Night on the River. This will be followed by Beethoven’s most popular piano concerto – his grand and compelling Emperor concerto, performed by the outstanding Ukrainian pianist Maria Pukhlianko. In the second half the orchestra will play what many conductors regard as the greatest symphony ever written, Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony, standing as it does as the opening work of the Romantic movement which dominated 19th century European culture in music, literature and art – a truly revolutionary work.
