The Christmas Spirit

Southend Drama Society is proud to present The Christmas Spirit by Frederick Stroppel. When Death comes calling on Christmas Day at the home of Julia Dowling, the only sensible option is to invite him for dinner. He’s not the usual type of spirit Julia likes to enjoy with her turkey, but the alternative seems to be dying – and she definitely doesn’t want to do that. There’s no way Death will take her once he understands how awful her untimely demise would be for her family. She’ll keep the fact that they can’t stand each other to herself for now. She’ll put up a tree, hang mistletoe, roast a goose and show him her picture perfect family Christmas. Her children will come, her sister and, of course, the vicar – she is (for today anyway) an upstanding member of the Church. All she has to do is ensure that her visitor doesn’t spot the cracks in her family facade. It’s foolproof! What could possibly go wrong?
