Presented by Southend Operatic & Dramatic Society REN moves from Chicago with his mum to a small farming town prepared to adjust to life at a new high school. But he’s not expecting that life in the town also involves edicts including a ban on dancing, instated by a preacher who’s determined to control the local youths. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter, Ariel, is attracted to Ren, her troublesome boyfriend sets out to destroy the newcomer’s reputation and some townsfolk think the worst of Ren as a result. With a soundtrack featuring smash hits such as Holding Out for a Hero, Let’s Hear it for the Boy and, of course, Footloose, this all-singing, all-dancing show tells the story of a father pining for the son he lost and a young man longing for the father who walked out on him.
An amateur production.
