Who are we
Our history
1906: the first grand prix is held at Le Mans, the Piccadilly and Nothern lines open, and, most significantly of all, New Theatre Cardiff as we know it officially opened its doors! After a blaze gutted the original 1826 building, Robert Redford hired prominent theatre architects Runtz and Ford to design the New Theatre that we all know and love today.

Over 115 years later New Theatre Cardiff has established itself as Wales' leading live entertainment venue, and has housed a number of international stars including Laurel and Hardy, Ian McKellen, Anthony Hopkins and more.
Our eclectic programme features a wide array of top-quality musicals, drama, comedy, dance, family shows, and one-night events, in addition to a world-class pantomime every holiday season (oh yes, it does!).
New Theatre Cardiff is proud to put its community centre stage. We regularly partner with local businesses with our corporate opportunities and venue hire. In addition, we bring local people together as part of our inclusive, and engaging, volunteering programme.

Volunteering
Do you love theatre and the arts? Our volunteering scheme provides opportunities to support the historic New Theatre - one of the oldest in Wales!
You can take a peek behind the curtain and play an active role in the arts scene in Cardiff. Some of the types of things our volunteers help us with are:
Greeting our visitors with a warm welcome and saying goodbye at the end of their visit
Directing visitors to any venue facilities they might need and answering any questions that you can assist with
Assisting with directing guests during an evacuation
We’ll make sure that you receive appropriate training, instruction and support for any volunteer duty we invite you to undertake, and we hope that you may be able to volunteer for a few days a month so that you can get the most from your volunteering experience with us. We are currently not taking on volunteers. Check this page regularly to be the first to know when this changes!
