March-ing into March (so sorry) here comes another cracking night of stand-up comedy in the intimate surroundings of the Lyceum Theatre Studio. This month’s fun delivered by this lovely lot – Catherine Young, Jules O’Brian, Joseph Emslie and musical madness in the form of a Duncan Oakley! Do note that lines ups are subject to change. Duncan Oakley has musical skills that would easily fit into many rock bands and performs an infectious mix of musical comedy and stand up that has seen him become one of the leading headliners in the business. With an eye and ear for the silly, rude, playful and downright irritating occurrences of life Duncan musters up songs that not only make you laugh, they bury into the recesses of your mind and find you a humming tune with a smile on your face three days later, confused and wondering where it’s come from. Duncan has performed for nearly 10 years on the UK and international stand up circuit and an easy confidence and good natured banter make him a regular at all the best venues. Lesser musical comedians hide behind their guitars and use them as a shield but his is definitely a sword as audiences who have been slain with laughter will gladly testify! “Unlike some musical comics who rely on a guitar to get them through, Oakley’s routine deftly mixes the tunes with the stand-up” City Life “Pure brilliance” Yorkshire Evening Post Instantly likeable, Catherine Young is here to bring you joy! Winner of the Hilarity Bites New Act of the Year 2019, Catherine is quickly making a name for herself as one of the most exciting new acts to come out of the North-East in recent years. From Irish decent, Catherine is a warm, yet fearless, electric act. Her comedy is light-hearted, full of mischievous stories and friendly humour, with the perfect mix of energy, punchlines and emotion. After a career in mental health, and as a singer in the working men's clubs, connecting with people is at the heart of who she really is. ‘An instantly likeable act, Catherine is a warm yet electric act who can fearlessly play any room, from a theatre to a working men's club and be totally un-phased. She's a dream to comedy bookers and a joy to audiences.’ Felt Nowt Comedy. Jules O’Brian Brummie-based Jules performs around the country, telling anyone who will listen about ageing disgracefully, body hang–ups, parenting, and dating. This former teacher’s relaxed, chatty style, crowd interaction and warmth, all served with a sardonic wit, make her a natural crowd-pleaser. “Funny as f***” Mama Life Magazine “Slick writing with a twinkle in her eye.” Scott Bennett Joseph Emslie His easy conversational manner, anecdotal, and self-deprecating, style of comedy has helped him secure him some early critical acclaim by taking the runner up place in the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2021, twinning this with his other final successes he really is “definitely a name to keep tabs on.” (Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke) “Radiating comic innocence and making great play on his schoolboy looks” Chortle Age restriction: 18+ Please note that there is no step-free access to the Lyceum Studio.
