A Festival of World-Class Jazz, Local Voices, and Musical Heritage - Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Duke Ellington’s Iconic "Eastbourne Performance”.
Join us for Ellington in Eastbourne, a one-off festival celebrating Duke Ellington’s connection to Eastbourne and the 50th anniversary of his final album, Eastbourne Performance, recorded live at the Congress Theatre and released in 1975. This special event features world-class jazz, including Echoes of Ellington — the UK’s leading Ellington Big Band, performing music from Ellington’s landmark collaboration with Ella Fitzgerald, featuring star vocalist Sara Oschlag and led by Pete Long, musical director of Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra. The Ellington Piano Project, premières a new album from Mark Edwards and Arnie Somogyi, which takes direct inspiration from the Eastbourne Performance.
With an opening set from the Brighton and Hove Youth Big Band and a commemorative exhibition, the festival celebrates Ellington’s enduring legacy and Eastbourne’s place in music history.
