Our access team is made up of staff members who understand and have a passion for making our venue accessible to all. At the Wycombe Swan, we understand that access can mean so much more than ramps and lifts (though these of course are important). It is about representation and respect as much as anything else, and recognising that barriers to access can be logistical, physical, cultural, financial, and more.

Through ongoing training of staff and partnerships with local access groups, Wycombe Swan can ensure that we are at the forefront of access in the live entertainment industry. Our team also work with Bucks Culture and attend their Disability Access Summit each year to learn and keep improving our access offering.

Our team are always willing to assist and make adjustments where possible to make a visit comfortable and enjoyable for everyone. Please let us know when booking if there is anything we can do to help you get the most out of your visit.

Location

Wycombe Swan is located in the heart of High Wycombe and is accessible by train, bus, coach, and car. The venue is situated in the town centre just off the high street, approximately five minutes walk downhill from High Wycombe train station. The main entrance is located on St Mary’s Street with flat step-free entry from the street and car park.

Accessible Parking

The Swan multi-story car park next to the theatre has 13 disabled parking spaces for blue badge holders. Parking is also free for blue badge holders in any space, as long as the badge is displayed in the front of your car.

The car park is owned by Buckinghamshire Council – please contact the council with any questions regarding parking.

Wycombe Swan Theatre

The Wycombe Swan box office, stalls foyer and stalls bar are wheelchair accessible and have flat step-free entry from the street. There are automatic accessible doors into the box office and foyer.

There is also step-free entry into the auditorium via doors 1, 2, 3 and 4 – please contact the box office before booking to confirm which seats are step-free.

There is a lift available in the foyer up to the Circle and Upper Circle levels. The lift may be unavailable in the event of an emergency evacuation. if you are booking seats in higher levels, you must be able to go down stairs in the event of an evacuation. We do not recommend higher levels for wheelchair transfers, although please do ask the box office if you have any questions before booking.

Old Town Hall and Oak Room

The Old Town hall is completely accessible with step-free entry available via the Oak Room entrance down the side of the main entrance off Queen Victoria Road. The Oak Room is upstairs, however there is a lift and step-free access from the lift into the venue.

Wheelchair access

The main auditorium has space for up to 8 wheelchair users in the stalls; the Old Town Hall for up to 5. There is lift access to all levels of the theatre in Wycombe Swan, the Old Town Hall and the Oak Room.

Access Tickets

We offer complimentary Essential Companion tickets on all shows for customers who require a companion to be able to visit the theatre. The first time you make a booking, we’ll need to see some documentation by email – we accept a picture of a Nimbus access card showing the +1 symbol, blue badge or a PIP/DLA/AA acceptance letter. Once you have been registered, you won’t need to send this for future bookings.

We also have step-free and accessible seating options – please ask the box office for the best option for your requirements.

Photosensitivity and Respiratory Conditions

For any performance containing strobe lighting, flashing lights, pyrotechnics, haze/smoke, and/or loud bangs/explosions, a notice will be displayed on all auditorium doors. Ushers and Front of House staff will also be aware of this content. If this is likely to be a concern for you or members of your party, please consult with a duty manager upon arrival.

Accessible Toilets

There is an accessible toilet on the Stalls and Circle levels of the Wycombe Swan.

A unisex accessible toilet is on the Stalls level of the Wycombe Swan and the Old Town Hall, and on the first floor outside the Oak Room.

Working Dogs

Guide, hearing and other working dogs are welcome in all parts of the theatre. If dogs are accompanying patrons, please advise the Ticket Office so that seating with suitable access can be arranged.

Accessible Performances

Wycombe Swan organises accessible performances for selected productions, including captioned, signed, relaxed and audio described. To see what productions have accessible performances, go to the “What’s On” page where you can filter by accessibility.

For BSL and captioned performances, we hold seats off-sale online with the clearest view of the interpreter or captioning. Please email or call the box office to make a booking. For audio described performances, we also offer a touch tour pre-show where visually impaired audience members can explore the set, costumes and sometimes, meet some of the actors to feel what will be described during the performance. Please contact us if you would like to book a touch tour (subject to availability/technical requirements).

Hard-of-Hearing

Wycombe Swan has recently upgraded the hearing loop system to Auri devices, which provide a clearer more reliable signal in most seats in all levels of the auditorium.

There are multiple ways to use the devices. Customers with auracast-enabled hearing aids can connect to one of our Auri devices via an app on your mobile phone. If your hearing aid has a T-setting, we also have hearing loops available which you can connect to. There are also headsets available which can be plugged straight into an Auri device, or you can bring your own head/earphones to plug in – you don’t need hearing aids to use a headset.

If you would like to make use of this system, please come to the box office when you arrive for the show and our team can give you an Auri device and show you how to use it.

Viewing Room

Here at the Wycombe Swan, we have a viewing room that we are able to offer to customers who may need to take a break from being in the auditorium but don’t want to miss any of the show.

The viewing room seats 2 people and is located at the back of the auditorium on the Stalls level.

If you feel like you may need to use this space please speak with the Duty Manager on arrival.
