Harry Apps, West End Musical Theatre Star of Les Misérables and Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends, returns to the Swindon Arts Centre for one night only, accompanied by the critically-acclaimed pianist Paul Turner.
Harry Apps grew up in and around Swindon, competing at the Arts Centre’s very own Swindon Music Festival multiple times. At age 18, he was cast in the UK & Ireland Tour of Les Misèrables as the leading role of Marius. After a year on the road, Harry was chosen to re-open the new production of Les Misèrables at the Sondheim Theatre, London, a position he held for three years both during and emerging from the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2023, Cameron Mackintosh, Julia McKenzie and Matthew Bourne cast Harry in Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends at the Gielgud Theatre. He has recently completed an album of Shakespeare set to music, written by the composer and orchestrator David Cullen.
Paul Turner is a widely experienced soloist and chamber music player renowned for his sensitive playing. He excels in a wide range of genres as demonstrated in recent events, including: performances of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Concerto in F, his National Theatre debut with Maria Ewing in a celebration for the life of Sir Peter Hall, and a new collaboration with BBC Young Musician of the Year finalist, saxophonist Robert Burton
Harry Apps now returns to his home-turf, accompanied by the brilliant Paul Turner, for one night only. Sharing some personal anecdotes, and including songs by Stephen Sondheim, Boublil & Schonberg, Burt Bacharach and Stephen Schwartz, this concert promises to celebrate music, theatre, and how the two combined can lead to some rather unexpected places…
