Comedy in the Attic

‘May’ another awesome comedy club be with you. and also with you. and you. and you. etc.

This month comedy crackers are Tony Cowards, Ricky Balshaw, Stephanie Laing and headlined by Tez Ilyas!

Tez Ilyas is the star of The Tez O’Clock Show (Channel 4), TEZ Talks (BBC Radio 4) and the multi-award-winning Man Like Mobeen (BBC Three). Join Tez as he uses his trademark silly, smart and subversive humour to celebrate all that we still have. Expect mega laughs, happy groans and cheeky provocations, as Tez guarantees a wicked time.

★★★★ ‘Radiantly entertaining’ The Times.

★★★★ ‘Blackburn’s Chris Rock’ The Guardian.

Tony Cowards is a rapid fire gag merchant with an arsenal full of one-liners, for laughs-per-minute he’s a tough act to beat! His quick wit has made him a sought after act and compere by comedy clubs and promoters across the UK and even for gigs worldwide. Something of a Twitter sensation, Tony’s jokes turn up in all sorts of places, from greetings cards to The Times newspaper, even if you’ve never heard of him there’s a good chance that you’ll have laughed at one of his gags.

Stephanie Laing started performing in April 2007 on the Scottish comedy circuit. She quickly established herself as one of the most promising acts of her generation on the comedy scene, and in 2015 appeared as a finalist in the prestigious Leicester Mercury Comedian of The Year competition. Described as “goofy and peculiar”, her comedy is partway between the needy oddness of Maria Bamford and the upbeat affability of Josie Long. Her material is a mix of silliness, filth and unusual observations, underpinned by a disarming honesty which makes her seem charmingly vulnerable.

BBC New Comedy Award semi-finalist Ricky Balshaw is a former Paralympic, Word Championship and European Championship dressage medallist, and sports pundit turned stand-up comedian, with a penchant for dark humour. Join him for a reliably twisted and hilarious look at disability, riding horses and navigating through worlds he really shouldn’t have been in. *Line-ups are subject to change. Age Guidance: 18+ Please note that there is no step-free access to the Lyceum Studio. For further details and access requirements, please contact the Box Office.
