In 2007, he earned the prestigious Sports Personality of the Year award, and in 2008, he was honored with a CBE. His ten-year tenure as WBO Super Middleweight Champion, with 20 successful title defenses, set a record for the longest reign in boxing history. Calzaghe also unified three of the major world titles (WBA, WBC, and WBO) at super middleweight and was the first Ring champion in that division.
